PastureGard Reviews – UPDATED 2020

Designed to offer a flexible product for landowners, PastureGard is a herbicide that controls broadleaf weeds and woody plants. It allows weed and brush control to make way and improve land utilization. It is an effective herbicide specially developed to manage woody plants, brush and invasive trees on pastures and rangeland.

A product of Dow Agrosciences, PastureGard is largely used by those involved in agriculture and land management. Though it works effectively as a standalone herbicide, it is also ideal for mixing with other solutions. It is a broad-spectrum, flexible formula that controls a variety of bush and tree species including rose, blackberry and more. It can help when trees, bushes and weeds cause problems for livestock.

This effective herbicide is flexible and works across different sites including pasture, rangeland, farm buildings, non-crop areas, wildlife habitats and more. It can be used to protect fence lines and treat large-scale renovation-style programs. It can even be useful for controlling weeds under the canopy of trees.

It helps protect and improve grazing acres by eliminating unwanted plants and facilitates effective utilization of the land. It can control a wide variety of woody plants like dogwood, aspen, burdock, elderberry, curly dock, chickweed, bedstraw and more. It can be applied using any method like broadcast, foliar, basal bark or cut stump application. To control plants in their full leaf, it should be applied through broadcast or direct spray.

PastureGard HL – What You Should Know?

PastureGard HL is aimed at simplifying pasture improvement with two active ingredients in one product to control woody plants as well as broadleaf weeds. It handles these weeds in a wide variety including some of the toughest brush including privet, rose and blackberry. It is a preferable herbicide for woody species and resistant species.

To get desired results, this herbicide should be applied when the plants are in an active growth stage. This is usually in the early summer. The application should be made at least 10 days before the leaves change color. Applying in late summer days in dry weather when the plants are not growing actively would not give expected control.

When used according to label instructions, PastureGard is safe for use around pets, children and livestock. However, the person applying the product should wear PPE when mixing and applying. The treated areas should be left unoccupied for at least 12 hours after the application.

PastureGard Spray – Getting Started

PastureGard herbicide can be applied using a pump sprayer or backpack sprayer for small to medium scale areas. For bigger applications, you can use a spray rig. To get started, determine the amount of product required by calculating the area of treatment. For spot applications, you use 0.18 fl. oz. to 1.47 fl. oz. of concentrate in one gallon of water to treat 1000 square feet of area.

Once you know the amount required, fill the spray tank with half a gallon of water and then add the PastureGard solution. Fill the rest of the water and mix well. Your PastureGard spray is ready to be applied to target areas where you want weeds to be treated. You can use a fan spray setting to apply uniformly.

If you are trying to control an invasive tree, you should perform a cut-stump application with an oil-based carrier. Apply the spray to 12-15 inches of the bottom of the trunk for effective results.

PastureGard Ingredients

PastureGard is a highly effective herbicide developed to control woody plants and unwanted weeds. It contains two powerful active ingredients to eliminate undesirable broadleaf brush and weeds. It is specially formulated as an emulsifiable, oil-soluble liquid that can be mixed with oil or water. It contains 45.07% Triclopyr and 15.56% Fluroxypyr to make it a potent herbicide.

Triclopyr is a low toxicity chemical that is safe to use around bees, fish and animals. It works by mimicking the growth hormones of plants and interfering with the normal growth process. It is absorbed by roots, leaves, stems and bark and transfers through the plant to disrupt further growth. The active component Fluroxypyr is a selective herbicide that can control the toughest weeds. It enters the treated plant through roots and leaves and replaces the hormones to cause abnormal growth patterns and disrupt growth.

PastureGard Vs Grazon – How They Compare?

Both PastureGard and Grazon are high-quality herbicides designed to provide an easy way to get weeds out of the way of pastures. They deliver a simple yet long-lasting solution for the hardest rangeland and pasture weeds.

PastureGard and Grazon are different in terms of their active ingredients hence work in different ways to control weeds. While PastureGard and Grazon can be applied by aerial and ground broadcast as well as spot treatment, PastureGard offers better flexibility in application. It can be applied with foliar brush as well as low-volume basal and cut-stump techniques.

The two herbicides also deliver effective control against different types of weeds. PastureGard works for a better variety of sites as compared to Grazon. The best choice of herbicide depends on the application area and the weed to be treated.
